WASHINGTON, DC – Government watchdog Accountable.US released the following statement on the Biden administration’s reported action to provide $10,000 of student debt relief for millions of student borrowers and extend the pause on payments for all federal student loan borrowers: 

“

Taking substantial debt burden off the shoulders of millions of student borrowers will help them get ahead and, in turn, grow the economy for everyone. The Biden administration’s action today effectively complements the Inflation Reduction Act’s historic measures to bring down costs for families. The move turns another page on the previous administration that catered to the greed of the student loan servicer and for-profit college industries even when it came at the expense of student borrowers.”

Along with a coalition of over 130 organizations, Accountable.US urged the Biden administration to cancel student debt and extend the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) waiver.
