An error-ridden endorsement of the Big Lie by a Federalist Society leader underscores the far-right extremist bent of the conservative legal group, which calls Leonard Leo a co-chair and conservative Supreme Court Justices Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett, far-right Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley and countless lower court judges and politicians members.

In a recent blog post, Steven Calabresi — who serves alongside Leonard Leo as co-chair of the Federalist Society — published a slew of falsehoods about the 2020 election, just months after he reasserted his opposition to Trump’s candidacy due to the January 6th insurrection. Calabresi argued that the last election was “probably stolen” and called Biden’s victory “illegitimate” due to expanded mail-in voting and the use of ballot drop boxes.

Calabresi’s comments parrot the same misinformation and conspiracies pushed by Honest Elections Project (HEP), Leo’s flagship voter suppression group. HEP has advocated for restrictions to vote by mail, ballot drop boxes, and voter registration in court filings across key swing states.

It’s seriously concerning that Supreme Court justices, senators, and countless other conservative leaders are proud members of the Federalist Society while the organization’s co-chair peddles the Big Lie. Leonard Leo and Federalist Society allies should have to answer for this brazen election denialism.”

Leo is a long-time proponent of the Big Lie, even using his dark money network to fund organizers of the rally that devolved into an attempted insurrection on January 6th. His Concord Fund regularly ranks as the top donor to the Republican Attorneys General Association, a group listed on the March to Save America website — and has pumped over $17 million into the organization since 2014.
