New Campaign Spotlights the Billionaires and Corporations Fighting for Wealthy Tax Cuts
WASHINGTON, DC — With the Trump 2017 tax giveaways for the wealthy and multinational corporations finally expiring in 2025, government watchdog Accountable.US today launched its “End Corporate Tax Giveaways” campaign, deploying its considerable investigative research and hard-hitting communications assets in the fight over the Trump tax cut extension and expansion.
Americans across the political spectrum agree that billionaires, wealthy tax cheats, and price-gouging corporations should pay their fair share in taxes. The 2017 Trump tax giveaways stand in stark contrast to that critical consensus. The top 1% and giant corporations reaped nearly all the rewards from the Trump tax giveaways, which is why they’re now the loudest cheerleaders for extending and expanding the deficit-exploding policy. We are committed to ensuring tax policies work best for working people rather than billionaires and wealthy corporations. The American people deserve to know the truth about the organizations and corporate cronies behind efforts to stack the deck against them.”
Accountable.US President Caroline Ciccone
In launching the new initiative, Accountable.US released a damning new report shining a light on several of the corporate lobbyists, lawyers, executives, and organizations behind efforts to help the wealthy avoid paying their fair share. The report includes Advancing American Freedom (AAF) and Club for Growth, two groups that are already funneling millions of dollars into an early effort to extend and expand the Trump tax cuts. Unsurprisingly, their boards and staffs are overflowing with some of the ultra-wealthy individuals and corporate executives who benefited the most from the disastrous Trump tax cut policy.
Key findings from the report include:
- Advancing American Freedom (AAF): Has launched a $10 million campaign to protect the Trump tax cuts and is run by corporate consultants, lobbyists, lawyers, and executives, including former Trump administration officials who were directly responsible for the 2017 tax giveaway.
- The Club for Growth: A notorious anti-tax group whose foundation arm has pushed an even more extreme corporate tax cut plan as part of their “opening salvo” in the current tax debate. The billionaire funders of the group’s action arm have benefited enormously from the Trump tax cuts, saving hundreds of millions of dollars from a single obscure tax break for passthrough entities.
