House Freedom Caucus Calls for Steeper Medicaid Cuts, Jeopardizing More Americans’ Healthcare

WASHINGTON, DC – In a letter to Senate Republicans, the House Freedom Caucus calls for even further cuts to Medicaid – a clear endorsement of gutting healthcare for even more Americans in service of a bill that skyrockets the deficit in large part to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-rich and corporations. 

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Offices (CBO) already estimates that the existing House-passed reconciliation bill – Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Betrayal” – would rip healthcare away from 16 million people, including close to 8 million from Medicaid cuts alone. If Senate Republicans cave to the House Freedom Caucus, even more Americans will lose their healthcare.
