After McCarthy twists arms, House GOP stands with disgraced Santos

WASHINGTON, DC — House Republicans yesterday dodged a vote on Rep. Robert Garcia’s resolution to expel disgraced Rep. George Santos, instead following Speaker McCarthy’s lead in punting the motion to the “famously slow-moving” House Ethics Committee (which is already investigating Santos) — even though the Department of Justice had already asked the Committee to pause its investigation. In doing so, countless House Republicans who once called for Santos to resign rolled over to protect Santos at McCarthy’s request.

Every single House Republican bowed to McCarthy and voted to keep disgraced George Santos in Congress. First, they voted for radical, unpopular measures like massive cuts to Veterans benefits and education. Now, they’re rolling over to protect a known fraud and serial liar after going on the record to call for his resignation. How low will these members go to fulfill McCarthy’s every wish and command? They should stop choosing McCarthy over their own constituents.”

In December, Accountable.US led the charge by filing a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics requesting an investigation if Santos is sworn in. In January, Accountable.US filed a complaint against Santos over campaign finance violations with the Federal Elections Commission, resulting in the Justice Department charging Santos with fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and false statements.
