Florida is a warning

HOSPITALIZATIONS FOR CHILDREN INCREASE

• It was reported that almost a third of children tested for COVID-19 in the state tested positive. 
  • Worse yet, with schools slated to reopen soon, the numbers are continuing to rise. Florida reported a 23% increase this week in COVID-19 hospitalizations for children.

MLB ATHLETES TESTING POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS 

• The Miami Marlins revealed that 18 members of their team and a coach had tested positive for the coronavirus and have been forced to temporarily suspend their season.

SMALL BUSINESS FUNDS FOR PERSONAL GAIN 

• A Florida man who received almost $4 million from Trump’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) reportedly spent a good portion of the money on a Lamborghini and other lavish goods.
  • This is just one of a growing number of instances of reportedly fraudulent use of funds obtained through Trump’s PPP — a poorly designed, poorly executed program that has been rife with abuse from its start.

The state is just one example of a pattern we’ve seen across the country: the Trump administration failed to respond efficiently or effectively to COVID-19 in February and March, and as case numbers keep spiking in Florida and across the country, Americans are still living with the consequences.
