WASHINGTON, DC – In remarks last night, Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined growing calls for an ethics code at the high court, adding to previous calls from fellow Justices Kagan and Kavanaugh. But Chief Justice Roberts continues to sit silent, refusing to act while the Supreme Court corruption crisis reaches a peak.

Chief Justice Roberts sat back and watched while the Supreme Court corruption crisis reached a fever pitch, causing public trust to plummet. Now, even as his fellow justices call for ethics reform, Roberts still refuses to clean up his court. Roberts himself has the power to change the ethics standards of our nation’s highest Court, but so far, he hasn’t shown the courage. We need reform now,” said Accountable.US president Caroline Ciccone.

As Vanity Fair’s Cristian Farias noted earlier this week, “when faced with the Supreme Court’s biggest crisis of confidence in a generation, thanks to bombshell after bombshell showing the justices’ proximity to Republican billionaires and power, the chief has had very little to show for it.”

Ahead of the Supreme Court’s October term, Accountable.US highlighted the serious ethics issues plaguing the high court under Chief Justice Roberts’ watch. Accountable.US led over 40 watchdog and accountability organizations in sending a letter to Roberts demanding he ensure conflicted justices recuse themselves from key cases. Accountable.US also launched a campaign highlighting the corrupt Supreme Court on the first day of its new term, featuring a mobile billboard around DC and a projection on the Supreme Court that highlighted the Court’s growing corruption crisis and called for Justice Thomas’s and Alito’s recusal from key cases.
