Washington, D.C. — A bombshell story in Rolling Stone revealed that several Republican members of Congress allegedly held planning meetings with those behind the “Stop the Steal” rally on January 6th that led to the deadly attack on the Capitol Building.

“Allegations that members of Congress helped organize the rally that turned into a deadly assault on our democracy are beyond disturbing — and they must now all testify under oath about the full extent of their scheming and collusion,” said Kyle Herrig, president of government watchdog Accountable.US. “If lawmakers made promises of pardons to rally planners or Trump allies offered their direct support, nothing less than a full accounting of the facts and evidence will do. The select committee must use every tool at its disposal to demand answers for the American people that never want to see our democracy in jeopardy again.”

The report claims that U.S. House member Paul Gosar allegedly promised “blanket pardon” to those organizing the rally, and that Trump ally and former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, who has been subpoenaed by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack, actively communicated with rally organizers, and potentially failed to intervene after being warned of potential violence at the event.

Katrina Pierson, a former Trump campaign official from his 2016 and 2020 runs, was also named in the report as a “key liaison” between the former president and the rally organizers.
