Watchdog: MAGA Republican Jan 6 Investigation Should Start With Themselves
Washington D.C. – The House Administration Committee’s newly announced “inquiry” into the bipartisan January 6th Committee last Congress tellingly mentions no plans to interview the four House Republicans who were referred to the House Ethics Committee for sanctions for failing to comply with subpoenas, including Rep. Jim Jordan and Speaker McCarthy. A review by government watchdog Accountable.US has found that a number of committee members have zero credibility when it comes to the January 6th assault on our democracy.
If this ‘investigation’ was anything more than a political stunt, the MAGA Republicans behind it would start with themselves -- especially those that thumbed their noses at subpoenas about their role in the insurrection. The motive here is to spread even more conspiracy theories to distract from the MAGA majority’s wrong priorities including slashing Social Security benefits.”
Derek Martin, spokesman for Accountable.US.
Risibly, Rep. Barry Loudermilk is leading the ‘investigation’ despite his vote to finish what the insurrectionists started by decertifying the 2020 election results; his vote against forming a bipartisan commission to investigate the events of January 6th; and his appearance in security footage leading a bizarre Capitol tour with Trump rally-goers on the eve of the insurrection as the group filmed areas “not typically of interest to tourists, including hallways, staircases, and security checkpoints.” Tapping among the least credible people in Congress to weigh in on January 6th matters speaks volumes about how serious the effort is.
