As recently as this week, the President-elect has promised to lower prices, claiming it was key to his election victory. In response to the sharp change, government watchdog Accountable.US released the following statement:
Before he is even sworn into office, President-elect Trump has betrayed working class Americans, backtracking on his promise to lower grocery prices and going in front of a Wall Street audience while proposing more tax giveaways to big corporations. It’s telling that the same companies responsible for price gouging millions of people and increasing prices on everything from bread to cereal, are now set to reap the reward of the President-elect’s agenda. Trump is very clear about whose side he is on, and it’s not on the side of working Americans.”
