Trump and Republicans in Congress Double Down on Failed Economic System that Works for the Wealthy and Stiffs the Working Class
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Shedding campaign promises to look after everyday Americans, President-elect Trump’s economic advisers and Republicans in Congress are reportedly scheming to gut “Medicaid, food stamps and other federal safety net programs to offset the enormous cost of extending Trump’s 2017” tax giveaway for big corporations and the super-wealthy.
Accountable.US warned the benefit cuts for the most vulnerable Americans including low-income seniors, single moms, children, and veterans will be catastrophic as the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects extending the trickle-down Trump tax scam will explode the deficit by $4.6 trillion over the next decade. “Among the options under discussion by GOP lawmakers and aides” are harmful, ineffective work requirements and draconian spending caps on safety net programs that will leave millions of working Americans without health care and on a path to poverty.
If reports are true and President-elect Trump and Republicans in Congress are planning to rip away health care and raise costs for millions of Americans, including seniors and working families, to pay for another giant tax giveaway to the wealthy and big corporations, it would be a slap in the face to the very people they claim to represent. Doubling down on a failed system that only works for the few is not a recipe to lower costs, create jobs, or raise wages. It just means more of the same that gives more to CEOs, billionaires, and big corporations.”
