Watchdog: “Corporate America cannot allow these officials to whitewash their reputations”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, a slew of former and current high-ranking Trump administration officials in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) decried the violence at the Capitol. Among these officials are architects of Trump’s horrific family separation policy, under which immigrant children were ripped from their parents’ arms at the border and kept in detention facilities where they were vulnerable to cruelty and abuse. Even as these officials rightly condemned the actions of insurrectionists as “tragic and sickening” and “unacceptable,” more than 600 immigrant children still remain separated from their families.

Government watchdog Accountable.US launched its Hate for Hire campaign last month in an effort to ensure that the Trump administration officials involved in and responsible for ripping immigrant children from their parents’ arms at the border are not able to take refuge in the nation’s leading universities and boardrooms, whitewashing their reputations and landing cushy jobs after their horrific actions. According to new reporting today in Politico, many officials involved in the policy are already concerned that they’ll have trouble getting new jobs.

“Under Trump’s horrific family separation policy, immigrant children were ripped away from their parents, caged, and abused. Some even died,” said Accountable.US spokesperson Lizzy Price. “For the architects of this horrific policy to now condemn the violence of insurrectionists at the Capitol is nothing more than an effort to improve their employment prospects after the widespread harm they caused thousands of immigrant families. Corporate America cannot allow these officials to whitewash their reputations by offering them cushy jobs come January 20th.”

Among those who have condemned the violence of this week’s events are former DHS Chief of Staff Miles Taylor, acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf, and former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly — all of whom were integral to designing and carrying out irreparable harm through Trump’s family separation policy.
