New reporting in The Advocate today highlights a new Accountable.US report detailing the extreme threat Project 2025 poses to LGBTQ+ Americans. From leveraging the Department of Justice to limiting past Supreme Court rulings, the lengthy Project 2025 blueprint outlines the key agenda items conservative leaders are plotting to enact in a potential future administration to impose their radical, unpopular agenda and undermine LGBTQ+ Americans’ rights.

Project 2025’s policy manifesto includes plans to leverage numerous government agencies and levers to achieve its anti-LGBTQ+ agenda, including:.

  • Department of Justice: Project 2025 threatens to call on the DOJ to defend the First Amendment right of those discriminating against LGBTQ+ Americans. It also threatens to prevent the DOJ from notifying states whose abortion and medical service bans may violate federal laws.

  • Department of Health and Human Services: Project 2025 recommends that a potential future HHS secretary reverse focus on so-called “LGBTQ+ equity,” instead codifying policies that encourage “marriage, work, motherhood, fatherhood, and nuclear families.”

  • Supreme Court: Project 2025 calls for not only limiting the application of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County which held that Title VII’s sex discrimination protections applied to LGBTQ+ Americans, but also threatens to prevent the ruling from extending to broader categories of sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

  • Department of Defense: Project 2025 threatens to reverse policies allowing transgender individuals to serve in the military.
