MAGA Majority fights to protect Big Oil’s unchecked price gouging and attack clean energy at consumers’ expense 

WASHINGTON, DC –  Following President Biden’s economic speech in which he called out the GOP’s proposed giveaways to Big Oil, Accountable.US released the following statement, contextualizing the House GOP’s blatant attempts to sabotage the Inflation Reduction Act, raise gas prices, and give their Big Oil allies free rein to exploit American consumers.

Since the day the MAGA majority took control over the house, they’ve been hard at work doing the bidding of their Big Oil allies, advancing measures to limit the President's tools to combat the industry’s out-of-control price gouging. With $47 million from the oil and gas industry in their pockets, the House GOP appears to be hellbent on delivering every last item on Big Oil’s wishlist, even if it means higher gas prices for working families.”

House GOP’s Big Oil low lights:

  • The oil and gas industry has given $46,995,088 to Republicans currently in the U.S. House of Representatives since the start of their careers. 
  • The MAGA majority has no serious policy proposals in this area: GOP Rep. Andy Biggs introduced literally hundreds of bills that would clawback critical funding to improve permitting and public lands management, including wildfire mitigation.
  • Big Oil is thriving and in no need of more government giveaways. 27 of the largest oil companies reported a record-breaking $451 billion in profit after price-gouging consumers for the better part of 2022.

These same Big Oil corporations are rewarding shareholders with $163 billion in dividends and stock buybacks while sitting on thousands of approved federal drilling permits.
