Marjorie Taylor Greene leads jail tour, taking up mantle for ultra-MAGA Patriot Freedom Project

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, ultra-MAGA Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) will lead a group of House Oversight Committee members in touring the DC jail where defendants charged with crimes related to the January 6 attempted insurrection are being held. Greene and her staff have close ties with the Patriot Freedom Project, a far-right group dedicated to supporting “political prisoners” and known for spreading extreme conspiracies and collecting thousands in donations with little transparency.

After downplaying the horrific January 6th attack, peddling the same conspiracies that inspired the riot, and cozying up to insurrectionists, Marjorie Taylor Greene is now pushing her House Oversight colleagues to do the bidding of one of the most extreme groups glorifying these violent insurrectionists. The House MAGA majority is using their power to support insurrectionists who violently attacked our nation’s Capitol, undermined our democracy, and injured 140 police officers — and they’re doing it all to appease right-wing extremist groups like the Patriot Freedom Project.”

Greene headlined the Patriot Freedom Project’s holiday event in December, where she spewed countless baseless conspiracies, including that January 6 defendants “are being politically persecuted” and “abused.” At the same event, former Trump adviser Joanna Miller revealed that Greene’s staff has worked to elevate the Project within conservative circles, crediting Greene’s legislative director with “bringing Patriot Freedom Project onto President Trump’s radar.”

The Patriot Freedom Project has been the focus of controversy surrounding extreme conspiracies and collecting thousands in donations with little transparency. Some January 6 defendants revealed concerns that they had to “suck up” to Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, “adoptive nephew” of Project president Cynthia Hughes, to get access to donations. In a trailer for an upcoming documentary, the Project suggested that Capitol Police intentionally opened barricades to let the protestors in during the attack. The group remains active on Truth Social, where leaders continue to stoke fear and spread conspiracies.
