Washington, D.C. — New reporting reveals that Cleta Mitchell, an attorney who played a key role in promoting twice-impeached former President Trump’s Big Lie, has been named to the Board of Advisors of the federal Election Assistance Commission. Mitchell participated in Trump’s anti-democratic phone call with Georgia’s secretary of state where the then-president pressured him to “find” him more votes to reverse Joe Biden’s win and she has been heavily involved in a slew of anti-democratic efforts across the country.

“From pushing Trump’s Big Lie to fueling anti-democratic voter suppression schemes, Cleta Mitchel has shown time and time again that she cannot be trusted to protect our nation’s most sacred institutions,” said Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US. “As right-wing extremists continue to sow doubt in the minds of the American people about the legitimacy and sanctity of our elections, it’s crucial that those who perpetuated these aggressive assaults on democracy are not rewarded with jobs where they are charged with its stewardship.”
