House Republicans Take Up Tax Scam Vote to Drive Up Costs

Green lights Trump’s costly trade war
WASHINGTON, DC — While millions of Americans struggle with rising costs exacerbated by the Trump administration’s chaotic tariff policies, House Republicans are expected to vote in favor of the Senate’s budget resolution—a bill that cuts taxes for their billionaire donors paid for by cuts to Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, and food support for millions of Americans. The binding rule that passed today 216-215 with only Republican support not only clears the way for a vote on the Trump tax scam, it also curtails any congressional checks on the Trump administration’s authority to impose tariffs.
House Republicans are declaring open season for Trump’s erratic trade war. Not only are they preparing to vote to gut billions in funding for Medicaid and kids’ school lunches to give tax cuts to the wealthy, Republicans voted today in favor of tariffs that raise the costs of countless goods that Americans rely on every day. Once again, congressional Republicans had the opportunity to stand up for their constituents’ bottom line, and once again, they are betraying their promise to fight for their constituents, instead voting for their corporate and billionaire donors.”

Pushing back against the Republican plan to slash funding for Medicaid and SNAP, House Democrats have introduced the Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act. The bill aims to block Republicans’ efforts to take advantage of the reconciliation process and adds protections for millions of Americans who rely on Medicaid and SNAP for healthcare and food assistance.
