WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senate Republicans confirmed President Donald Trump’s judicial nominee Ed Artau to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. In response, Accountable.US President Caroline Ciccone issued the following statement: 

“

Donald Trump hand-selected Ed Artau to carry out his priorities in the courts with lifetime judicial appointments. Artau has weaponized the bench in order to curry favor with Donald Trump, and used his judicial posts to advance an extreme ideological agenda. Since reentering office, Donald Trump has continuously picked judicial nominees whose allegiances are with the President, instead of impartiality on the bench. With today’s vote, Republican Senators turned their back on Americans’ fundamental freedoms and confirmed judges who will compromise the integrity of the court.”

Earlier this year, an Accountable.US investigation revealed that President Donald Trump’s judicial nominee Ed Artau appeared to have weaponized his current judicial post to help Trump, at the same time that he was seeking a lifetime appointment to the Southern District of Florida from the President. In February 2025, Florida judge Ed Artau wrote a concurring opinion allowing President Trump’s “preposterous” defamation lawsuit against the members of the Pulitzer Prize board to proceed – at the same time he appeared to have been lobbying the White House for a promotion to the federal bench.
