Accountable.US Statement on Second Alito Flag-Flying Incident
New reporting today revealed a second political flag flying at one of Justice Samuel Alito’s residences — this time an “Appeal to Heaven” flag flown by many rioters in the violent January 6th insurrection. During the period the flag was seen flying at Justice Alito’s New Jersey residence, a key January 6th-related case arrived at the Supreme Court.
In response, Accountable.US president Caroline Ciccone released the following statement:
It has never been more clear that Justice Alito is unfit to serve on our nation’s highest court — let alone decide critical election-related cases that will impact the future of our democracy. With the far-right laying the groundwork to sow doubt in the upcoming election, Americans must be able to trust that our system of checks and balances will endure. They expect that Supreme Court Justices will uphold core American principles of democracy and the rule of law. Justice Alito has failed these tests.”
