With today’s ruling, the Court's conservative majority undercut a core American value — that no one is above the law — to put its thumb on the scale for their preferred candidate. The conservative majority replaced jurisprudence with politics. This decision opens the door for unchecked abuses of power at the highest levels of government and undermines our democracy.

Make no mistake: the political calculations of this conservative majority were apparent well before today’s ruling. The mere fact the Supreme Court took this case was an effort to shield their preferred candidate from accountability. This same conservative majority just overturned Chevron deference in a pattern of rulings to consolidate power within a future executive branch.

And this same conservative majority brought on the ongoing legitimacy crisis plaguing the high court. The Justices caught accepting lavish perks from their wealthy benefactors without facing the consequences just ruled to protect Trump from facing the consequences of his role in the January 6th insurrection. Conflicted Justices seemingly continue to serve the interests of their own billionaire buddies instead of the American public.
