As Republicans retain control of committees because of McConnell-led delays, Graham is refusing to schedule a hearing for Attorney General nominee Merrick Garland
Delays in Garland’s confirmation are just the latest example of a pattern of obstruction from Senate Republicans to swiftly confirm Biden’s nominees
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Accountable Senate War Room released the following statement on Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Lindsey Graham’s refusal to schedule a timely confirmation hearing for President Biden’s attorney general nominee, Merrick Garland.
“Since apparently it wasn’t enough for Senate Republicans to refuse Merrick Garland a hearing when he was nominated to the Supreme Court — now they are delaying his hearing to head up the Justice Department,” said Mairead Lynn, spokesperson for the Accountable Senate War Room. “The Senate is already behind in confirming President Biden’s nominees because Republicans sat on their hands during the lame-duck, and it’s ridiculous that Senator Graham is now holding onto the last vestiges of power to delay the confirmation of the administration’s top law enforcement official. It’s well past time for this obstruction to end, and if Senator Graham refuses to work in good faith to quickly confirm President Biden’s highly qualified nominees, then it’s time for him to step aside and let more serious legislators get to work.”
