NEW: Project 2025 Contributors Found to Run Afoul of Election Law
In case you missed it, new reporting in the Huffington Post, based in part on research from Accountable.US, shows that American Stewards of Liberty (ASL) is violating laws that prohibit non-profits from spending their money to influence the outcome of elections.
The posts in question clearly advocate against the election of presidential candidates in the 2024 elections, despite ASL’s status as a nonprofit that is prohibited from this activity under the tax code. Previously, the group was the subject of complaints over their lobbying for legislation to oppose national land conservation efforts, which is similarly restricted for such organizations.
ASL is a contributor to the controversial Project 2025 initiative, taking credit for shaping that initiative’s guidance for how federal public lands should be managed under a future conservative administration.
From their contributions to Project 2025 to this latest outburst of extremism, American Stewards of Liberty’s aims are clear: They will stop at nothing to end protections for the great outdoors, even if it means running afoul of the law. The only true winners in their plans are the corporate special interests who would benefit from their dangerous plans for public lands.”
