STATEMENT: Alito, Thomas Must Recuse Due to Serious Ethics Conflicts
Following new reporting revealing that a “Stop the Steal” symbol flew over Justice Samuel Alito’s front lawn as the Supreme Court was considering a critical 2020 election-related case, government watchdog Accountable.US president Caroline Ciccone released the following statement:
Americans expect that Supreme Court justices will uphold the rule of law to the fullest extent — not spit in its face. News of Justice Alito’s seemingly political act is the latest in a long string of serious ethics issues which have caused public trust in the high court to plummet to all-time lows. Now more than ever, the Supreme Court holds the great responsibility of delivering consequential decisions which will impact the future of our democracy. Justice Alito has clearly shown he is not suited for the task. At the very least, Justice Alito and Justice Thomas must immediately recuse themselves from all 2020 election-related cases — and Chief Justice Roberts must take urgent action to address the unacceptable ethics crisis at our high court.”
