SCOTUS corruption crisis grows while Roberts dodges

WASHINGTON, DC – It’s been 24 days since Chief Justice Roberts refused an invitation to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee following a string of serious Supreme Court scandals. Those scandals have since grown into a full-blown corruption crisis that continues to undermine the credibility and integrity of our nation’s highest court — all while the face of the Court dodges responsibility and refuses to act.

The corruption crisis is causing public trust in the Supreme Court to plummet — and instead of doing anything about it, Chief Justice Roberts is sitting back and watching it all happen. Our nation’s highest Court has no ethics code. Roberts has the power to change that, but so far hasn’t shown the courage. What is he waiting for?”

Where is Chief Justice Roberts?

Meanwhile, Randall Eliason, former chief of the fraud and public corruption section at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, encouraged Roberts to take a moment to reflect on the standard set by his own Court, writing: “If Chief Justice John Roberts wonders how [the Justice Thomas scandal] could have happened, he might start looking for answers within the cloistered walls of his own courtroom.”

Accountable.US has continuously called for Chief Justice Roberts to take action regarding the serious ethics issues plaguing his Court. Last month, Accountable.US launched a mobile billboard campaign near the Capitol Building and around Roberts’ Chevy Chase country club which displayed messages reading “Chief Justice Roberts: The Face of a Court in Crisis,” and “Chief Justice Roberts: Clean Up Your Court,” as well as headlines highlighting Roberts’ inaction.
