Watchdog: Trump ‘Drug Czar’ Marks 33rd Administration Pick Tied to Right-Wing Media Misinformation Platforms

Washington D.C. – Last week, President Trump announced Fox News personality Sara Carter as his ‘Drug Czar’ — despite bringing zero relevant experience in drug policy, public health, or law enforcement. Carter joins an ever-growing club of Trump administration nominees and officials with ties to right-wing media platforms including Fox, Rumble and Truth Social – 33 in all, a new analysis from government watchdog Accountable.US found.
At Issue: These individuals are joining the government ranks from platforms notorious for proliferating disinformation and misinformation, conspiracy theories, and extremism benefitting President Trump and Republicans in Congress, which severely damages the credibility of any information the administration puts out. Turning known right-wing propagandists into government spokespeople only invites more public mistrust in government institutions, which leads to dangerous trends like skepticism in vaccines and peer-reviewed science.
“President Trump has given a federal platform to far right propagandists who have gotten rich off platforms that spread baseless conspiracies and disinformation to sow distrust in government,” said Accountable.US Executive Director Tony Carrk. “Rewarding people who have made a living from these far-right platforms undermines Americans’ faith in the truthfulness of their government, harming everything from public health to confidence in the economy.”
Accountable.US’ analysis follows its findings today that several top Trump administration officials conflicted with millions of dollars in investments in the President’s right wing media company, Trump Media & Technology Group, have yet to divest despite publicly pledging to do so.
