WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the Justice Department (DOJ) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) announced a new inquiry into the “state of competition” across the airline industry, calling to attention widespread, anti-competitive practices undermining the availability and affordability of flights. Government watchdog Accountable.US has previously documented the industry’s efforts to undermine key DOT regulations against hidden junk fees that drive up costs for millions of American travelers.

Limited travel options force flyers to tolerate poor service and high fees. We know big airlines are fighting tooth and nail to keep hidden fees in place, and consumers deserve to know whether the industry is gaming the market on top of it all. The more the Biden-Harris administration puts the airlines on notice for anti-competitive behavior, the more likely American travelers will receive fair treatment and prices.”
