Washington D.C. – Today, Accountable.US President Caroline Ciccone released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling in Bondi v. VanDerStok which upheld the federal regulation of ghost guns.

This ruling marks the second time in less than a year that the conservative majority on the Supreme Court has overturned a ruling by the Fifth Circuit in a judge-shopped case. Last June, the Supreme Court similarly overturned the Fifth Circuit’s ruling in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, upholding the independent, science-based approval of Mifepristone.

Accountable.US President Caroline Ciccone: “It has become dangerously common for corporate special interest groups to manipulate the judicial process – primarily by relying on the Northern District of Texas to Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals pipeline – to make sure they receive favorable rulings. But today, the Fifth Circuit’s ruling in Bondi v. VanDerStok was too extreme for even the right-wing majority on the Supreme Court. For the second time in less than a year, the Supreme Court overturned a Fifth Circuit ruling in a judge-shopped case. Today’s ruling makes our communities safer and will help keep dangerous ghost guns off our streets, but it’s also another example of how special interest funded groups have manipulated our courts by judge shopping their way to their desired appeals court decisions.”
