While You’re Sleeping, House Republicans Plan to Slash Healthcare, SNAP for Millions

Republicans’ plan will make life harder and more expensive for millions of seniors, families, and children
WASHINGTON, DC — Tonight, House Rules Committee Republicans are planning to push through a budget scheme that will make life harder and more expensive for millions of seniors, families, and children by cutting funding for Medicaid, SNAP, and education, all while giving themselves and their billionaire donors massive tax breaks.
House Republicans have a billionaire-first tax scam that rips healthcare from nearly 14 million Americans, guts food aid for 3 million, and jacks up the cost of education and electricity. It’s no wonder they want to try to pass it when no one is looking."

A quick reminder of what’s at stake BEFORE Rules committee Republicans sneak cuts through their 1 am vote:
- Millions of Americans will no longer have access to affordable healthcare: Congressional Republicans’ plans to slash federal Medicaid funding and Affordable Care Act tax credits would cause nearly 14 million Americans to lose healthcare and insurance over the next 10 years.
- Consumer protection will be a thing of the past: House Financial Services Republicans, led by Chairman French Hill, slashed funding for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)—a financial lifeline that has returned nearly $20 billion to Americans who have been scammed by big banks and other bad actors for more than a decade—by nearly 70%.
- Families across the country will struggle to keep food on the table: At least 3 million fewer Americans each month would have access to SNAP, while the available benefits fail to keep pace with rising food costs.
- Higher education will be even less affordable: During the reconciliation process, House Education and Workforce Committee Republicans endorsed over $350 billion in education funding cuts, including diminishing available student aid, repealing Biden-era student loan forgiveness for borrowers misled by predatory institutions, and slashing Pell Grants.
All the while, Congressional Republicans are making out like bandits: While Republicans slash SNAP, Medicaid, and education funding for millions of their constituents, Accountable.US’ Cash in Congress revealed that nearly 70% stand to benefit from their own tax scam.
