WASHINGTON, D.C. – With the final confirmation vote set today on the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to run the Health and Human Services Department, Senators had ample time to review Kennedy’s conspiratorial contempt for lifesaving vaccines, his vows to end funding research for treatments and cures to deadly diseases, his empty resume on health policy matters, the lingering questions about his conflicts of interest involving lawsuits against a leading HPV vaccine, and the fact he is currently under investigation for potentially committing felony voter fraud. Government watchdog Accountable.US urged the Senate to reject the nomination of such a flawed and dangerous candidate.

“Any vote to confirm Kennedy to lead HHS is a vote to put our public health at risk, and Senators know it,” said Accountable.US Executive Director Tony Carrk. “The war Kennedy is itching to wage against vaccines and scientific research will undoubtedly cost lives and could lead to the resurgence of diseases once thought dormant. Among the last people who should be overseeing our public health is Kennedy, with his non-existent health policy credentials, embrace of ludicrous conspiracies, and judgment so lacking that he potentially committed felony voter fraud despite courts warning him not to. Senators who rubber stamp this dangerous nomination in fear of an angry tweet from President Trump cannot later feign concern and surprise when Kennedy’s actions end up harming everyday Americans. They, too, will own the consequences.”

ANY VOTE FOR KENNEDY IS A VOTE FOR:

Dangerous Implications of Unscientific and Conspiracy Theorist Views

  • Kennedy and his nonprofit have promoted several wildly unscientific conspiracy theories, including the claims that vaccines cause autism and that wireless technology emits radiation that can harm human bodies. In Kennedy’s activism efforts, his nonprofit, Children’s Health Defense, paid $226,000 to groups that peddle anti-vaccine misinformation and conspiracy theories, including $136,000 to a group with which it co-published a paper that used unverified VAERS data to cast doubt on COVID-19 vaccines’ safety.

Disruptions to HIV Research and Medication Access

  • On numerous occasions, Kennedy has sown doubt around the fact that HIV causes AIDS, which is accepted by overwhelming scientific consensus. In his book “The Real Anthony Fauci,” Kennedy wrote that he takes “no position” on whether HIV causes AIDS. Last year, a seventh person was reported as cured of HIV, and many Americans, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community, are hopeful that a cure can be developed for this devastating disease.

Claims About Race-Targeting Bioweapons

  • Kennedy has falsely claimed that COVID-19 is a bioweapon “targeted to attack Caucasians and black people” and that  “Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese” are the “most immune” from it. Kennedy also stated that the United States is funding “labs in the Ukraine” to collect Russian and Chinese DNA “so that we can target people by race” using similar bioweapons.

Potential Conflict of Interest

  • Kennedy — a prominent vaccine opponent — reported earning fees from lawsuits against leading HPV vaccine Gardasil that his affiliated firm, Wisner Baum, has steered towards civil courts in pursuit of large monetary damages rather than through HHS’s special vaccine court. If confirmed, Kennedy would oversee the regulation of Gardasil, including determining how HHS’s vaccine court handles Wisner Baum’s lawsuits, while potentially enriching himself from an unprecedented legal strategy. Kennedy claims he will relinquish his claim to contingency fees from civil cases won by his affiliate law firm Wisner Baum, and instead give any to his son, which still keeps the conflict of interest within the family.

Possible Felony Voter Fraud Offense

  • In the most recent presidential election, Kennedy cast a ballot in New York using a residence that, in August 2024, the Albany County Supreme Court found did not meet the legal requirements to constitute his residence under election law. Under New York law, any person who “knowingly votes […] in an election district or from a place where he does not reside” is guilty of a felony. Kennedy is now under investigation over the matter.
