Watchdog: Senate Confirms Pam Bondi Despite Lobbying Conflicts, Cronyism & Office Selling – The Perfect Tool for Trump’s DOJ Weaponization

Washington D.C. – On the heels of the Trump Justice Department (DOJ) firing several career attorneys involved in prosecuting Donald Trump over his gross mishandling of classified documents and his conspiratorial efforts to overthrow the 2020 election results, the Republican-led Senate voted to confirm lobbyist Pam Bondi as U.S. Attorney General who has already demonstrated her willingness forgo the public interest to do Trump’s political dirty work.
Beyond Bondi’s fealty to Trump, Accountable.US has exposed Bondi’s serious potential conflicts of interest involving at least five of her major lobbying clients who have had run-ins with the DOJ she now will lead – and the former Florida Attorney General’s record of selling out her office to corporate special interests that donated millions of dollars to the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) in exchange for dropped lawsuits, amicus briefs, and firings.
“Pam Bondi is surely a welcome addition to the Washington D.C. swamp of insiders, lobbyists, and political cronies that keep things from getting done on behalf of everyday Americans,” said Accountable.US Executive Director Tony Carrk. “Bondi brings serious conflicts of interest, lobbying baggage, and a record of being beholden to donors that will leave a lingering question of whether she’ll ever put the American people above her personal interests—or the demands for political vengeance from the President.
“Just days into his term, President Trump has aggressively moved to use the Department of Justice as a political weapon to seek revenge against his perceived political enemies. Nothing in Pam Bondi’s record gives confidence that she will stand up for the American people against these actions that undermine our democracy, rule of law, and national security interests,” added Carrk. “ Meanwhile, lowering costs for the American people he campaigned on seems to be an afterthought. A vote to confirm Bondi was a vote to further Trump’s agenda of rigging the system further in favor of himself, corporate donors, and wealthy insiders, while the needs of everyday Americans are dismissed.”
