Watchdog: Congressman Who Defied Subpoena Issues First Subpoena As Judiciary Chair
Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan subpoenaed the Department of Justice in an effort aligned with his pet project peddling conspiracies through the new Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.
Government watchdog Accountable.US released the following statement in response:
If Jim Jordan thinks congressional subpoenas are serious business, why didn’t he comply with the one he got last year? Today’s news is just further proof that Jordan and his MAGA colleagues in the House established the “Weaponization” Subcommittee to chase conspiracies, score cheap political points, and distract from issues that actually impact Americans.”

Background:
In December 2022, Rep. Jim Jordan, Along With Three Other Congressmen, Was Referred “To The House Ethics Committee For Sanctions For Failing To Comply With The Select Committee’s Subpoenas.” “In addition to making criminal referrals to the Justice Department for former President Trump and attorney John Eastman, the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol referred four GOP members of Congress to the House Ethics Committee for sanctions for failing to comply with the select committee’s subpoenas. Those four members are House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Andy Biggs, Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Scott Perry, all close allies of Trump.” [CBS News, 12/19/22]
