SHOCKER: Pharma-Backed Conservative Groups Join Together to Support Big Pharma Over Patients
New letter from conservative groups opposing progress on prescription drug costs comes as new poll shows issue is top priority for people, Trump at 54% disapproval on it, and 87% of Americans want Congress to take action
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, conservative groups released a letter opposing a proposed International Pricing Index, which would be a small step toward reducing the cost of prescription drugs and treating American patients fairly that the Administration is considering in the wake of President Trump’s meltdown over his cratering poll numbers on health care. The list of conservative groups signing on to the letter include those bankrolled by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).
“This is how Big Pharma does their business in Washington, D.C to block even the smallest bit of progress for patients that would threaten their massive profits and multi-million dollar executive payouts,” said Eli Zupnick, spokesman for Patients Over Pharma. “Big Pharma knows that people across the country are demanding meaningful action to reduce the cost of prescription drugs and these conservative groups are more than happy to cash Big Pharma checks and join the chorus opposing any policies that threaten their profits.”
Among the conservative groups that signed on to this pro-Pharma letter after being funded by them are:
-
Consumer Action for a Strong Economy
-
FreedomWorks
-
Taxpayers Protection Alliance
-
Institute for Policy Innovation
-
Competitive Enterprise Institute
-
American Conservative Union
