Report: DOGE Caucus Congresswoman Involved In Anti-Antiquities Act Scheme That Violated State Contracts & Wasted Taxpayer Dollars

New Reporting From Public Domain Shows Rep. Celeste Maloy (R-UT) Helped Oversee An Anti-Public Lands Scheme That Cost Utah Taxpayers $400K
Washington D.C. – New reporting from Public Domain shows that years before Rep. Celeste Maloy (R-UT) was trying to dismantle the Antiquities Act, she was overseeing a state-funded scheme that promised to sue to overturn protections for places like Bears Ears National Monument, but never did, in apparent violation of state contracts.
Maloy, a member of the Congressional DOGE Caucus that hopes to root out government waste, served on the board of a group that made as much as $400,000 in Utah taxpayer dollars disappear, and was the subject of formal complaints.
Public Domain’s reporting includes newly-published open records from Utah’s auditor’s office that show a state accountant’s opinion that the money should have been returned to Utah taxpayers.
“Rep. Maloy’s attacks on the Antiquities Act are just the latest in a long history of disingenuous, anti-public lands posturing,” said Tony Carrk, executive director of Accountable.US. “If Rep. Maloy is serious about saving taxpayer dollars, she should work to reimburse Utah taxpayers for the money her group took and drop her bill that would gut legislation that has protected vital public lands across the west while boosting local economies and creating jobs.”
