WASHINGTON, D.C. – Another 900,000 workers filed for unemployment last week, joining the nearly 16 million Americans looking for work in the Trump recession. The needs of struggling workers, states, and small businesses remain massive in scale, and the stimulus passed last month was only a down payment on the work Congress still needs to do to achieve a real economic recovery for those other than millionaires and big corporations. Government watchdog Accountable.US called on Minority Leader McConnell to take responsibility for the economic mess he and his fellow Trump-enablers left for President Joe Biden by supporting the new President’s American Rescue Plan.

“The economy continues to hemorrhage jobs and small businesses at a terrible pace and the sacrifices being made by millions of families are only getting harder,” said Jeremy Funk, spokesman for Accountable.US. “Bold action is needed immediately, and President Biden’s rescue plan will help deliver long-overdue relief to workers who’ve been forgotten in the Trump recession. It’s shameful that Mitch McConnell dragged his feet for eight months between pandemic relief packages. The nation can’t afford more of his obstruction.”
