President Biden Designates Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument

WASHINGTON, DC — In response to the President Biden’s use of the Antiquities Act to establish the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument in Mississippi and Illinois, nonpartisan watchdog Accountable.US released the following statement:
President Biden’s declaration of the Emmett Till National Monument helps move us past the politics of division fomented by MAGA extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene,” said Kyle Herrig, Senior Advisor to Accountable.US. “ If we all can’t get behind this important recognition then the future of our country is very bleak.”
The lynching of Emmett Till in 1955 in Mississippi and the subsequent courage of his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, to ensure that his death would not be in vain, helped bring widespread national attention to the injustices and inequality that Black people endured during the Jim Crow era in the United States and particularly in the South.
The Till’s tragic story would help bolster the Civil Rights movement.
