Washington, D.C. Government watchdog Accountable.US released the following statement from its president, Kyle Herrig, in response to U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)’s address to the National Conservatism Conference in Orlando, Florida today:

“Senator Rubio’s loaded message to corporations is to abandon the values they hold in support of equality and climate action. Poll after poll shows that is only good advice for companies looking to alienate shareholders and customers. Embracing hate and extremism is never a good business model, just look at Donald Trump’s dwindling empire. If this is the line Republicans are drawing in the sand, then corporations need to seriously examine why they offer them so much support.

“Rubio is not known as someone who sticks to his principles, so it’s no surprise to see the Senator try to score quick political points with the political fringe at corporations’ expense as he continues to take millions of dollars from corporate special interests and do their bidding in Congress. A man of the working people, Marco Rubio is not.”

“It’s also rich to hear Senator Rubio grandstand about outsourcing as someone who has repeatedly voted down efforts to end tax breaks for companies that ship their jobs overseas,” added Herrig.
