WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump and Elon Musk aren’t just putting a target on public servants who deliver veterans’ benefits, Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security and other services at the federal agencies in Washington, D.C. The administration’s Department of Government Efficiency is slashing federal jobs in states across the country – eliminating good-paying jobs for workers who directly served others within their communities. From Michigan to Montana to Georgia, Americans in cities across the country are losing their jobs as firings hit employees at VA local hospitals, in national parks, schools and research institutions, and more.

“Everyday, the Trump-Musk agenda is making it harder for families to get by,” said Accountable.US Executive Director Tony Carrk. “Eliminating thousands of jobs in communities across the country is just the latest way Donald Trump is cruelly squeezing families who are already facing high prices, an erratic stock market responding to Trump chaos, and industry-stunting tariffs under his failed economic agenda. And while regular Americans struggle to get ahead, thanks to Trump and Musk’s self-dealing, their personal wealth just keeps climbing.”

In Arizona:

  • AZ Central: “President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk’s push to downsize the federal government is reverberating in Arizona. The state is home to tens of thousands of federal employees. Plus, Arizona takes more federal money than it gives back. That means Trump’s push to shrink the federal workforce and cut government spending are both being felt here. […] Arizona has 34,000 workers who could be impacted by the DOGE cuts, according to the Congressional Research Service.”

In Iowa:

  • KCRG: “The Iowa City Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center is gearing up for potentially hundreds of its workers to be cut. That’s because the national Veteran’s Affairs department is preparing to cut as many as 80,000 employees nationwide. It comes after the Iowa City VA just had two rounds of layoffs for probationary workers. VA employees in Iowa City said staffing at the medical center is already thin after a round of layoffs affecting probationary workers.”

In Montana:

  • KBZK: “By now you may have heard that the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is set to shut down multiple Montana government offices, one of which is the U.S. Geological Survey’s Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center in Bozeman. But something that hasn’t been talked about a lot yet is what the outcome of these closures could look like. “These people aren’t sitting around playing cards all day. They’re doing things for us, for the people that live in Montana,” says Chris Servheen.”

In Michigan:

In Georgia:

  • Savannah Morning News: “The Centers for Disease Control is the hardest hit by the federal cuts, with $2,473,060 claimed to be saved by terminating the lease on the 119,812 square-foot building.”

In Wisconsin:

In California:

  • LA Times: “The Trump administration has ordered firings and buyouts at the federal agency that operates water infrastructure in California, potentially jeopardizing the agency’s ability to manage dams and deliver water, according to Central Valley water officials.”
