This week in Congress: House Republicans shill for the rich on the backs of everyday Americans

WASHINGTON, DC — This week, House Financial Services (HFSC) and Education and Workforce Committee (EWC) Republicans pushed through hundreds of billions in funding cuts for critical consumer protection and education programs millions rely on in order to pay for tax cuts for themselves, billionaire donors, and corporations. 

What’s at stake: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)—an agency designed to protect consumers and has put $20 billion back into the pockets of Americans—could lose up to 70% of its budget to congressional Republican cuts, while millions of Americans could lose access to $330 billion in funding for programs they rely on to pay for school at every level.

A quick rundown of lawmakers like Rep. Summer Lee (PA-12), Rep. Jahana Hayes (CT-05), and Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) responding to Republicans’ most egregious claims about education funding:
