To Pay For Tax Cuts for Billionaires and Corporations, CBO Finds Cuts Will Have to Be Made to Medicare or Medicaid, Jeopardizing the Healthcare of Hundreds of Millions of Americans

Washington Post: “The nonpartisan bookkeeper said there’s no other way to cut $1.5 trillion from the budget over the next decade.”

WASHINGTON, DC – The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported this week that congressional Republicans must make cuts to Medicare and Medicaid – federal healthcare programs that in total hundreds of millions of Americans rely upon – in order to pay for their budget bill that cuts taxes for the ultra-rich and corporations.

According to the Washington Post:

“..the House GOP’s budget, which passed last week in a hairline vote, asks the committee responsible for federal health-care spending to find at least $880 billion in savings over 10 years. And the Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday that reducing costs that much won’t be possible without cuts to Medicare, Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program.”

Trump and Republicans in Congress’ pledge to not touch Medicare or Medicaid was never more than a talking point, but the nonpartisan CBO report cements the truth: their plan to cut taxes for the richest in our country and corporations will come at the cost of the healthcare of hundreds of millions of Americans."
