WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Accountable.US released the following statement in response to President Biden’s designation of Camp Hale as a national monument in Red Cliff, CO. The designation marks the first new national monument established during his tenure in office and an important step to conserving 30 percent of natural areas in the United States by 2030.

The Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument is a site treasured by veterans and civilians for being a training site for the famed 10th Mountain Division, which played a vital role in fighting the Axis Powers in World War II. In recent months veterans and local community members have loudly voiced their support for Camp Hales’s designation as a national monument to honor their service, as have Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO) and John Hickenlooper (D—CO), Colorado Governor Jared Polis, and Representative Joe Neguse (D—CO).

"President Biden’s monument declaration honors the service of veterans by preserving Camp Hale for future generations. Today’s designation is an important step in fulfilling the President’s campaign promise of conserving 30 percent of natural areas in the United States by 2030."
