Washington, D.C. — In response to news that the Biden administration is resuming oil and gas leasing on public lands, government watchdog Accountable.US issued the following statement urging the administration to release the Interior Department’s report on the public lands leasing program and move quickly to restore critical national monuments like Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante:

“Rather than allowing the courts to dictate matters of critical policy, the Biden administration should release its report on the future of oil and gas leasing on public lands — it is long past time to act,” said Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US. “The slow pace of change on this issue and others is deeply troubling. If the administration is going to meet its conservation and climate goals, it needs to chart a different path on leasing and restore critical national monuments like Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante without further delay.”
