WASHINGTON, D.C. – As we celebrate Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Heritage Month, Accountable.US released the following statement calling on lawmakers to ensure that hate crime legislation is passed in the Senate as part of ongoing support for the AAPI community in the U.S.:

“The Senate’s recently passed Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act is a critical first step, but lawmakers have much more work ahead of them to ensure that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in this country have the support they need,” said Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US. “AAPI communities have endured an extraordinarily difficult year, facing rampant racist violence on top of widespread job losses and COVID-19 deaths. House lawmakers must work to swiftly pass the anti-hate crime bill, and then get to work delivering substantive employment and housing support and opportunity for AAPI workers and families.”
