America First Legal’s Anti-Democracy, Anti-Abortion Antics Raise Alarms

Over the past week, the Stephen Miller-led far-right legal group America First Legal (AFL) has let its freak flag fly with extreme anti-democracy and anti-abortion antics. From posting an upside-down flag on social media after bombshell reporting exposed the same anti-democratic symbol flying over Justice Samuel Alito’s home to University of Texas at Austin professors joining AFL to threaten their own students over obtaining an abortion, the organization’s hardline agenda raises even graver concerns given its role advising Project 2025.
Amid mounting scrutiny of Justice Alito, AFL posted an image of an upside-down American flag – the same known “Stop the Steal” symbol flown at Alito’s home in 2021. This provocative act, replicated by the Heritage Foundation over the weekend, flew in the face of bipartisan outrage and numerous calls for recusal dominating headlines.
Recent reporting revealed that two University of Texas at Austin professors joined AFL in a lawsuit threatening students who request absences for obtaining abortions out-of-state. This far-right anti-abortion stance shows the extreme radicalism behind the Stephen Miller-led group, raising serious alarms as to how far fringe conservatives are willing to go when crafting anti-abortion policies for a potential future conservative administration.
Accountable.US recently revealed American First Legal’s judge-shopping tactics and exposed the extremism of Gene Hamilton, the organization’s vice president. Learn more about America First Legal and other groups making up the far-right dark money network at MonitoringInfluence.org.
